Since it's unlikely anyone will be able to tell the sheep apart without their color coded halters and nameplates, I'll just lump their pictures all together.
Astrid, (DOB October 24, 2014) joined our farm as a pregnant yearling in 2015. Astrid was minimally handled, not halterbroken, and rather put off by her newfound lifestyle. She was the bolder of the two ewe lambs who made the trip here from Oklahoma and I was headbutted more than once during the weeks it took to tame them down. But she did learn to trust me and by the time her lamb was born in February, she was comfortable with me attending. Her bold personality has now made her one of our most used petting zoo sheep, as she has very little fear and quite enjoys the attention. Astrid wears the purple halter and usually sports a purple bow.
Ridley (DOB Feb 1, 2015) joined us in the fall of 2015, alongside Astrid. Ridley earned her book character name due to her initial drama queen personality, often throwing herself to the ground during halterbreaking attempts or any activity she disagreed with. As we got to know each other, she mellowed significantly and her only temper tantrums are when she gets left behind for a party. Ridley has been known to force herself through a closing gate to load herself onto the trailer and not be left behind. Ridley has taken on the role of "babysitter" with our many kids and lambs, and it's not uncommon to find the baby goats climbing all over her. Ridley wears the pink halter.
Shasta (April 2018-2023) will be our last lamb, as the decision was made to retire the sheep from breeding. He is exceptionally bonded to his mother, Ridley, and I decided to let her keep him since there won’t be any more lambs in her future. These days, he rotates between the buck/wether pen and the girl pen and often joins his mother or auntie Astrid in the petting zoo. Shasta is the largest of the sheep and wears a green halter. Shasta passed away unexpectedly in 2023 and is already greatly missed.
Lainey (Spring 2023) joined us in the fall of 2023, after finishing her show career with one of our employees. Lainey is the black faced lamb. She's still a bit timid around new people, but extremely friendly once she gets used to things so we're hoping for a long future with this big girl.
